Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan Join Netflix Show

After three years, Netflix is ready to serve us another serving of “Beef.” The streamer released the full trailer for Season 2 of Lee Sung Jin’s anthology series, which this time follows the conflicts of two very different couples — both with each other and within their unions.

Soundtracked to “Punching in a Dream” by New Zealand band The Naked and Famous, the trailer opens with Carey Mulligan‘s Lindsay having a heart-to-heart with Cailee Spaeny’s Ashley on the grassy golf court of the country club where her husband Josh (Oscar Isaac) serves as a general manager. When asked by Ashley, who works at the club with her fiancé Austin (Charles Melton), if she is happy in her marriage, Lindsay gives a brutally honest answer.

“I think deep down we both knew it was a temporary band aid,” Lindsay says. “For the immense pain of knowing you picked the wrong person.”

The trailer then goes on to tease the main conflict of the season, as Austin and Ashley stumble upon and record Josh and Lindsay in the middle of a heated fight. As the four navigate the aftermath of the event, they also all seek the favor of the club’s billionaire owner, Chairwoman Park (Youn Yuh-jung), who is dealing with her own scandal involving her husband Kim (Song Kang-Ho). Seoyeon Jang, William Fichtner, Mikaela Hoover, and Matthew Kim round out the season’s ensemble cast.

“Beef” Season 1, which starred Steven Yeun and Ali Wong as two strangers in the Los Angeles area who meet during a road rage incident and slowly become mutually obsessed with ruining each other’s lives, premiered in April 2023. Also starring Joseph Lee, Young Mazino, David Choe, and Patti Yasutake, the season was met with critical acclaim and won eight Emmys, including acting trophies for Yeun and Wong as well as the Best Limited Series award.

Lee and all four lead actors of Season 2 executive produce the series. Yeun and Wong, who are not slated to star in the season, also executive produce. Jake Schreier, Anna Moench, Kitao Sakurai, and Ethan Kuperberg serve as additional executive producers. A24 is the studio behind the series.

All eight episodes of “Beef” premiere April 16 on Netflix. Watch the trailer below.
